The Personality Traits of a Capricorn

Updated on July 2, 2011

The Capricorn is the sea-goat of the zodiac. The myth is that the goat-god Pan was attacked by Typhon. To protect himself, Pan dove into the Nile. The part of him that remained above water stayed goat, the part that went under water turned into a fish. The Capricorn sign runs from the 22nd of December until the 21st of January.

Best and Worse Parts of the Capricorn

The Capricorn is said to be practical, prudent, disciplined, ambitious, humorous, reserved, patient and careful. However, they are also known to be pessimistic and always expect the worse, as well as not being overly happy to help others.

The Capricorn comes across as quite cool and calculated and obsessed with power and authority. Inside, they are warm, friendly people with a good sense of humor, but it takes them a long time to allow anyone to come close enough to them to experience this positive side. Instead, they will be seen as unfriendly and arrogant.

Capricorn Careers

Capricorns like to use their hands and are quite solitary, so are happy to work by themselves. They are very much suited for careers such as carpenters, contractors, masons, dentists, watch makers and security guards.

Capricorn Best and Worst Matches

The Cancer is one of the best matches for a Capricorn as they have the same goals and aspirations. The Cancer really compliments the Capricorn, as they have a positive outlook on life. Taurus is also well suited to the Capricorn, as they have a loving nature and are best suited to lift the Capricorn out of their dark outlook on life. Virgos are also very well suited, as they are just as big of a perfectionist as Capricorns.

Capricorns, however, should stay away from Aries. Capricorns like to take things slowly, whereas the Aries is extremely impatient. Gemini are too whimsical and do not have high standards or ideals to match the Capricorn’s. Leo’s are too outgoing. Sagittarius is probably the worse match for a Capricorn, as they are each other’s polar opposites and are unable to find a middle way.

The Capricorn Child

Capricorn children are quiet and obedient and often come across as very wise, beyond their years. They will often be the teacher’s pet, as they are focused on being the best in what they are doing. They are easy children to have around, as they need no entertaining, choosing their own interests and activities instead. However, Capricorns often suffer from a low self-esteem and it is important to keep an eye on this as a parent. Always praise their efforts, which should not be difficult as they go out of their way to be helpful around the house, in school and with any activity they chose to undertake. As Capricorns are born pessimists, it would be good to always point out the silver lining of any cloud to your Capricorn child, which could help them become more balanced and positive adults later in life.

I will never-ever encourage an Aries woman to marry a Capricorn man. Capricorn is an Earth sign, compatible only with other Earth-signs (Taurus and Virgo). Aries is Cardinal Fire. Earth (mud, sand, soil, rock, terra firma) is stronger than fire. During my marriage of 20 years I could not even singed his surface, because he was pure desert with one oasis somewhere hidden between the shifting dunes. (I believe some Capricorns are green, nutritious fields).

I do enjoy your hubs. Once upon a time I sought guidance in astrology. It was, after all, psychology before Freud started to investigate the mind.
