The Personality Traits of a Leo
Leo is the lion of the Zodiac and its sign runs from 22 July to 22 August. Many civilisations over thousands of years have portrayed the constellation of Leo as a lion. The theory is that this is due to the fact that the sun is amongst its stars in midsummer, which is the period in which the Egyptian lions left their desert living areas to go to the Nile, where they could find relief from the heat. In Greek mythology, the lion was sent down by Hera to kill her archenemy, and after his death he was placed amongst the stars by Zeus, the king of gods.
Temperament of the Leo
Leo is the most spontaneously creative, extrovert and dominant of all zodiac signs. Leos are just like their animal counterpart in as such that they are courageous, ambitious, dominant, positive, strong willed, self-confident and independent.
Leos are powers for good. They are strongly humane, idealistic and intelligent and can be very philosophical. They have a playful and very loving nature and are great with children because they are often still in touch with the child within them. Leos can go too far in their temperament and become arrogant and self-centred. They are also cunning and can use trickery against those who have wronged them. They have an inherent need for approval, which can be very tiring on others.
Leos love the new and extraordinary and despise dull and ordinary routines. If faced with routines, they will create their own drama to liven things up. They do not like to be unhappy so will take matters into their own hands to make things right again. They are also extremely territorial and will defend their kingdom with all their might.

The Professional Leo
It should come as no surprise that a Leo feels most at home in a position of power and would be perfectly happy to simply have such a position and sit there, basking in its glory. President of a Board, for example, is a position ideally suited to a Leo. Jackie Kennedy is a prime example of a Leo in a position most suited to them. Her role as first lady gave her all the limelight she needed to feed her Leo ego.
Unfortunately, what the Leo craves more than anything is love and they seldom get this. They tend to travel in circles that are driven by power and wealth – Leos are often very lucky financially – and unfortunately people in these circles can be somewhat emotionally detached.
Leos and Relationships
Leos are open, sincere, genuine, trusting and outgoing. They are also highly sensitive and can be extremely upset if they are hurt by someone they trusted.
Leos are mainly compatible with Aries, Sagittarius, Gemini and Libra. The combination of Leo and Aries can be both the best and the worse. Both are extremely dominant and can end up fighting each other for a spot in the limelight. However, if they both find a balance between their individual (and sometimes individualistic!) needs, they can truly be a match made in heaven.
The Leo child has to be the leader in everything. At home, in school, in any games he plays, he has to lead. If not, Leo will start sulking. Although this can be hard, we need to remember that the Leo child has this need to lead out of enthusiasm and it is best to encourage this behaviour. They are also full of bright ideas, so make sure you listen to them very carefully.
