This is what I call "the fingers revolution". The new technologies are increasingly dependent on our indicator to control operations. These are the cases of smartphones, the iPad and, more broadly, the tablet that has revolutionized the way we do with these tools. One way where the finger is the king's commands.

Looking back, far behind, it is curious the parallelism that exists with this new era of discovery and permanent changes to the time when man began to leave their mark. The way to leave a legacy for others, imagine, starts also with a finger.

There are about 40,000 years, man, before writing (which is believed to have happened only about 3,500 BC), painted figures on the walls. And he did it first with its fingers. Only after due to creative vein that has always accompanied our evolution, is that he started using brushes rudimentary feathers. Or in wood.
The experts say that this time the painting was done with a limited variety of colors: black, white, red, yellow and brown. Were obtained with carbon powder, soda lime and various shades of colors diluted in fatty substances or vegetable juices.
Historically, the rock art, as it calls this way of communicating ancestor, appeared almost simultaneously in the Upper Paleolithic in different places on the planet. It was considered the first global expression of man's capacity to symbolize.

Digital Revolution

But let us walk forward in the time machine. Until to the present day. Until the time that we take, for example, mobile phone and ran to see the image in horizontal positions that appears in the vertical; the time of writing on the screen, in what might be called the successor of PC keyboards, as we know them; the time that open and close applications with the fingers; until the time we pulled the pages off the Internet or a document with a single finger, or until the time when we use two fingers to stretch the image that comes to us condensed.
If we take this picture and transposed into a larger format, for the tablet, with Androi system, or the iPad from Apple, we see that we are facing a digital revolution that grows every day.

Point and Click

Paulo Querido, new media consultant, journalist and writer of books, articles and some code about internet and that is the net since 1989, reminded us a job that he did not so long ago, about what is coming and what will comes. He spoke specifically of the iPad, which works a bit like the gum Chiclet, which was so pronounced that all the gum has to be called Chiclet. With the tablet, it moved a little the same. Although it existed, was the Apple iPad that make growing the tablets. And roughly, when we speak about iPad, taking some particularities, we can incorporate references to the tablet.
The specialist said that the iPad "promises to end the frustrating experience of the interface that dominated imperial and undisturbed, the ratio of 99% of humans with 100% of computers over the past 30 years."
Paulo Querido refers to the metaphor of the graphical user interface and interaction with the mouse, the multiple variants of "point and click."
On the other hand, emphasizes that promises to end the dependence of the shape of the screen. "It remains rectangular, oh yes, but we have the liberty to rotate this rectangle, run it with our own movement, naturally, the content. What is being shown, it adapts to our position rather than be forced into alignment with his position."
And for where we are walking?

He admits that we are going in direction to an era where "the interfaces between the physical, atomic, and the digital world of bits disappear. Or, if we like, will be transparent and not involve any effort."
He said that the we touch today in screens. "In games, we direct our avatar, or representative, merely through bodily movement. And we began to talk to the devices effectively."
In this evolution process he admits that before long, a large number of operations performed by our digital devices "will be led by natural processes of communication: gesturing, pointing, verbalizing. And vice versa is true: will receive the messages not only through the screens, but by listening."
In summary highlights will fade the barriers that "contains the physical and digital representations of reality."

Use the most convenient

About the increasingly common use of the fingers, Lourenço Medeiros, SIC television journalist, specializing in new technologies, confides to me: "I think it's just a phase."
He added that, "for a few years we had mice and keyboards. Now, beginning to evolve to use what is most convenient in each case."
Said that "the Siri (virtual assistant iPhone 4S) has proved that we can use the voice as an interface far beyond the simple recognition that we are accustomed."
On the other hand, concernes that Microsoft "has made notable advances in XBOX also with the use of voice, hand gestures and even body language."
Lourenço Medeiros stresses that "even the fingers that we use the iPad are often replaced by own pens when it comes for example to draw on tablet."
In this area, states that, "if anyone have doubts, just look at specialty stores for the number of pens that are being sold for machines that can use only your fingers."
Lourenço Medeiros, from on top of it's great knowledge in this area, it is still modest to mention that just said "are just a few clues to what I believe to be the conclusion."

In this field, predicts that "the machines, or more precisely the interfaces will evolve for us to use it more practical in each case. We may ask out loud on television to change channels, but if we are near a sleeping person or in a very loud, before we can use a gesture or even the old buttons."

The user

From the user point of view, what they say to me is that with the tablet, really, life became easier. So much so that we entrust become addictive, as is the potential that allows you to have all the computer technology in a distance of one finger.

In conclusion, whichever path we will follow in this field of new technologies, the truth is that we are indeed going through a revolution of the fingers. The fingers that run our appliances and facilitate communication.
