The world's longest roads running through 14 countries

According to the Guinness book, Pan-American is the world's longest highway, however it is not easy to drive along this route due to interrupted by tropical forests of Darien Gap length 100 km between Central and South America.

In fact, Pan-Americam is a system running through 14 countries including: USA, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Argentina.

So the Pan-America runs through several climate zones with varied landscape includes the tundra (or MOSS), mountains, steppes, arid desert or tropical jungle.

From North to South, the route started in Deadhorse, Alaska near Prudhoe Bay oilfield and 662 km highway running by first Dalton to Fairbanks. Dalton highway built in 1974 as the route of the Trans-Alaska oil pipeline supply. Driving through here quite challenging by no one in 384 consecutive service. This is also the first section of the road was put on the list of the most dangerous roads in the world by BBC.

From Fairbanks to go add 155 km to the Delta Junction, the northern end of the Alaska Highway, the next part of the route. The Alaska Highway was built in 1942 by the U.s. Army Corps of engineers, a project using 10000 war military personnel. Its purpose is to connect Alaska with the contiguous 48 States to Canada against the Japanese attack.

The original distance of 2700 km in length but to 2012 has been reduced 2232. However, trails are being opened again the entire length as before. The second line runs through Calgary, Alberta and Billings, Montana, connecting with Interstate 25 through Denver, Colorado, to Las Cruces, New Mexico, connecting with Interstate 10 to San Antonio, Texas, and then enter the first route. From there, the line runs straight to Mexico through the Mexico Federal Highway 45 and to the border of Guatemala as Mexico Federal Highway 190.

To the Central America except Honduras, the Pan-American are all run through the capital of the country, including: Guatemala City (Guatemala), San Salvador (El Salvador), Managua (Nicaragua), San José (Costa Rica) and Panama City (Panama).

The most difficult section on the route is located in Costa Rica, where it must pass the "death Crest" (Summit of Death) at 3335 m. This is the highest point of the Pan-American on Central America. The route through Central America will be interrupted at Yaviza, on the edge of the forest and the vast swamp region of the Darien Gap, and then continue to the other side in the Turbo, Colombia-South America.

Advice for this barrier is to take the ferry from Panama to Colombia or Ecuador, and then back to keep the Pan-American.

In Colombia, the route runs through the Medellin and Cali before crossing the border into Ecuador in Tulcán. In Ecuador the highway passing through the capital Quito is located at an altitude of 2850 m. Quito is the second high-capital world, after La Paz of Bolivia. From here, the route going straight South to Peru, through Peru Highway 1 runs the length of the country and connects all major cities in coastal areas, including the capital, Lima.

From Peru, Pan-American run through the Atacama desert, the driest place in the world. Route continues with Chile Route 5 across the Antofagasta to Valparaiso (Chile). Here, the route entered Chile Route 60 through the Andes mountains to Argentina, entered Argentine Highway 7 to go to Buenos Aires. The foot Pan-American Highway is 3045 km from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia.

The world record for the fastest trip by car through the Pan-American belongs to Tim Cahill and Garry Sowerby in the incredible time: 23 days 22 hours 43 minutes.
