North Al tips to stay safe in tornado season

Updated on August 19, 2011

Tornado in North Alabama

Tornado safety

Here are a few tips to keep you safe during a Tornado Warning, if you have a storm cellar and a tornado warning is issued that is where you need to be.

Keep your cellar clean by using a Insect fogger, and keep a light source and fresh water in it.

I also recommend that you have a weather radio that is battery powered in cause you lose power to your home, due to the storms.

If a tornado warning is issued for your county, stay away from glass windows and move to a interior room or the bathroom of your home and cover you and your family with a mattress from a bed in the bathroom.

I've noticed that alot of the time the bathroom is the only room left, I think it is because the pipes in the bathroom help keep it secure.

If you are in a car, move to a better shelter if that is not possible get in a low lying ditch and cover your head, the last place you want to be in a tornado is in your car.

Use common sense if the National weather service has issued a watch for your area stay home and don't be out traveling until that watch expires, I promise if you do that alone it will help keep you safer.

Never try and outrun a tornado in your car, they are to unpredictable and like I said earlier a car is the last place you want to be in a tornado

Anyway have a great summer and stay safe.

I need 20 people to help me reach my dream.

I’m glad I live in a region without tornadoes. But it never hurts to learn some tips on how to stay safe.

yes it is - we have big horns that go off and you can hear them howling for miles when we have a tornado warning.

I bet it is nice in France, what is the weather like there?

Here it is hot and humid
