Twelve, Twelve, Twelve

Updated on December 11, 2012

Tomorrow is the 12th day of the 12th month of the 12th year of 2000. This inspired me to write a hub about the number 12. This number is used in many of our natural courses in everyday life.

Just think about how much the number 12 comes up in an average day for you.

As a Christian, I must state you will find the number twelve all throughout the Bible. There were 12 disciples. A crown with 12 stars is mentioned and there are 12,000 people from each tribe sealed. There are 12 tribes which makes the square of 12, 144,000, the total amount of seals.

Other religions also use the number 12 in many forms too. In Judaism, 12 is when a girl matures. There are 12 days of Christmas.

In Islam, there are 12 successors to Muhammad.

In Hindu, there are 12 names for their sun god.

There are 12 Labours of Hercules who was a Greek god.

The number 12 is used in many technology areas.

Look at your keyboard of your computer. The function keys go from F1 to F12.

Look at your telephone. There are twelve keys.

Many computer formats base off the number 12.

There are 12 hues in the color wheel.

3 Primary

  • red
  • yellow
  • blue

3 Secondary

  • orange
  • green
  • purple

6 Tertiary

The names vary in tertiary colors, but they are mixes of primary and secondary.

Many sports use the number 12.

In bowling, there are 12 strikes needed for a perfect game.

In football, it is the number designated for the fans.

You will find many other 12s in sports too if you just pay attention.

12 hours in a 1/2 a day

12 months in a year

12 zodiac signs

Other Twelves

Twelve is all around you.

12 inches in a foot.

12 ounces in a troy pound.

A jury is the number 12.

Many programs use 12 steps such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Celebrate Recovery.

You have 12 pairs of ribs in your body; well unless!!

Tomorrow will be a day we will not see again. 12-12-12- wow, just think about it.

I will leave you with a musical twelve.

Have a great day on December 12th, 2012. Remember what has happened on that day in history:

1800-Washington D.C. is established as the Capital of the United States.

1961-Martin Luther King and followers arrested in Albany, Georgia.

1979-Gold hits a record $462.50 an ounce. It is now $1712.96.

I was going to wait until tomorrow at 12:12 to add this comment, but I'm not that patient....Very interesting! I knew 12 was an important number, but I actually learned quite a bit more than I knew before. Thanks!

Cool facts! You lost me on the 12 hours in a day; I thought there was 24. If there are twelve them I am twice as old, and that is not a good thing. :)
