Visiting Yellowstone National Park in Winter
Yellowstone in Winter
The world's first national park, Yellowstone, is magical during the winter! Think snowy landscapes, steaming geyser basins, and very few people. You really will have a front row seat!
Heading off to Yellowstone during the winter months requires some planning and preparation. My best advice... if you want to visit during the winter... sign-up for tours/activities with Xanterra, which is the concessioner for Yellowstone.

Planning Your Yellowstone in Winter Trip
Park concessioners (Xanterra) operate lodging and offer programs such as snow-coach tours, guided ski and snow-shoe tours, guided snowmobile tours, and wildlife bus tours during the winter months. You can choose from a variety of activity levels and experiences. There are many choices. Mammoth Hot Springs hotel is open as is the Old Faithful Snow Lodge.
Located in the park’s interior, and accessible only by over-snow transportation (snowmobiles and snowcoaches), the Snow Lodge provides a warm and cozy base for amazing winter adventures. Just out the door is a great trail and boardwalk system through the Upper Geyser Basin, home to Old Faithful Geyser and many others. Also just out the door are cross-country ski trails and snowshoe opportunities.
Snowmobile rentals are available for guided touring only. We did the "Trail of the Wolf Tour" and it was AMAZING!
A daily shuttle is available from the Bozeman Airport to/from Yellowstone.
