Vocabulary Builders!

Updated on November 2, 2012

Let's Work Together to Build a Better Vocabulary!

I abominate inappropriate language, especially when it comes out of young peoples' mouths. I loathe the fact that some people can not articulate their ideas, so they feel that they have to insert bombastic, highfalutin, irrelevant words into their sentences to "get their point" to be "understood."

In a few cases, I have politely called people out in public regarding their use of profanity, mostly because I don't want my child to hear and repeat such foolishness.

Here are a few sites that can help people learn new words to insert into their sentences so they can be succinct and understood without the unnecessary, inappropriate nouns, verbs, and adjectives!

http://quizlet.com/- Great for students to create flashcards and even has the definitions for a multitude of English classes!

http://www.sadlier-oxford.com/vocabulary/- Visit this site and discover a plethora of words used on the SAT/ACT; however, it also has words for elementary students to build on!

Let's all practice using appropriate, relevant words in all situations in hopes to make our world a better place! Remember to think before you speak......especially when you have little ears listening!

I had to stop by hear because one of the things I have noticed is that I do not have a very big vocabulary. Most of the time I find that I write simple because of it. I even prefer it. However, it doesn't hurt to build on the vocabulary, especially if it means getting rid of the inapprorpiate words around little ears. :)
