An Endocrinologist are Physicians who are specially trained

to diagnose and treat diseases related to the glands. Endocrinologists

treat people who suffer with hormonal imbalances, typically

from glands in the endocrine system. Most primary care

physicians will send their patients to an endocrinologist

when their conditions or diseases are related to the glands.

What do Endocrinologists Treat?

Endocrinologists treat patients who have these conditions:

  • Menopause
  • Diabetes
  • Metabolic disorders
  • Lack of growth
  • Osteoporosis
  • Cancers of the endocrine glands
  • Thyroid diseases
  • Cholesterol disorders

What certifications does an Endocrinologist Need?

To become an Endocrinologist you must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Then the student can apply at a medical school, once the student has been accepted, four more years is required. Then once this is completed, the endocrinologist will have to become a resident that can last three to four years. After this is complete, a mandated state licensure can be obtained.

Some coursework involved in this profession will be:

  • Thyroid imaging and analysis
  • Endocrinology and genetics
  • Clinical endocrinology
  • Molecular endocrinology concepts

Endocrinologist certification can take up to ten years, so it is encourages to think about this and make sure this is the degree you are wanting to get.
