What is the meaning of your name?- insights by ellebyam at

Your Name Reveals Who You Are

What's in A Name?

From the time you were born up to a certain age when you get to realize and decide for yourself what nickname you want to be identified with, you did not care about having any other name at all. This hub is written out of curiosity after seeing a question posted by a hubber about choosing a good name for babies and browsing hubbers whose usernames are quite intriguing. Other than a minority who use their real names, many hubbers, including myself, hide behind pen names and pseudonyms for many reasons. The curiosity led to asking what is the meaning of a name?

Digging deeper while searching Google for meaning of names lead to interesting sites that immensely dedicate archiving names in relation to etymology, defined in Wikipedia as “the study of words, their origins, and how their form and meaning have changed over time” and to onomatology, the study of name origins and their history discovered by M. de Rochetal, a Paris professor of handwriting in the early 1900s. (Source)

The site Behind The Name presents a vast collection of names, their meanings and origins down to all derivatives. It is surprising to find the female name Maybelle as a derivative of Saint AMABILIS "late Latin name meaning "lovable". And what is more interesting to note is that "HE was a 5th-century PRIEST in Riom, central France." The site also shows the relations, the name tree and existing websites related to the name in question.

Behind Hubber Names

Because of the overwhelming number of hubs that pour in by the hour, a new hubber, like myself, needs a tremendous amount of time reading and learning what it takes to do good hubbing. And as you go along, you will find great hubs behind every hubber name. Below are hubbers you may particularly find remarkable as you go about exploring hubpages and the many hubs worth reading. And yes, their hubs are what got me into further learning more about their given hubber names.

Your Name Tells All About You

Further ‘googling’ revealed sites that analyze and give meaning to names based on numerology, astrology and other occult arts. Probably it would take many months of research to get everything written in a series of hubs. For now, let's just settle for a quick analysis of your names correlated to your positive traits as well as negative traits.

Your Name Reveals Your Positive and Negative Traits

Your Name Leads Your Destiny

As you would read from the snapshot above (grabbed from a site called Find Your Fate), each letter in your name has a designated number. There is no harm really trying this one out. In fact you might be surprised to find hidden traits lurking behind your name or your friend's name!

Each letter in your name has a numerical value which you can add up to get to a single digit. The bible must have been one of the most used and useful references for getting names. But certain math geniuses and psychics must have collaborated on an amusing take to using numerology as tool to analyzing names in correlation to each person's unique characteristics.

Example : Maybelle Raquel

Maybelle = 4+1+7+2+5+3+3+5 = 30 = 3+0 = 3

Raquel = 9+1+8+3+5+3 = 29 = 2+9 = 11 = 1+1 = 2

The total expression number of Maybelle Raquel is 3+2 = 5

Real Names of Famous People

There is nothing more exciting for a would-be mom than naming her perfect creation. That is why most moms take precious time off to know the meaning of names to give their babies. But other than finding the meaning of a name, the more favored practice is to name babies after someone who may have been an inspiration or somebody who may have influenced one’s life. That somebody may also be a famous person whom you idolize. The most common practice in naming babies is getting the names of famous people. It is amusing to note that many celebrities have different birth names, needless to say, names that may not have given them the celebrity status. Here’s a random list for another coffee break…

      Like in the Birth Date article you wrote I received a 5 for my total name. Some of the negatives fit me. But not the positives. I'm okay with a lot of different things, but not wonderful at any one thing. I'm a terrible communicator, stuck without words to really express what I'm trying to say, and even worse when I have to explain anything to anyone. I'm very emotional, and I can FEEL something, but I cannot put it into words. I don't even bother approaching people to get anything because I don't know really how to talk to people about it. I usually either try to get it on my own or, if I have to, offer something in exchange, usually to their benefit more than my own. To me it matters more than others are happy or content around me than if I am myself, and I'll worry myself into a grave I know with it.
