Who is Responsible..Just Who? asked the Owl.

Updated on April 25, 2014
Who is responsible?
Who is responsible?
Where are the wild birds?
Where are the wild birds?
Where are the geese?
Where are the geese?
Where are the brown deer?
Where are the brown deer?
The once green grass that feeds its own is perishing.
The once green grass that feeds its own is perishing.
In our dreams, we fly, and see what once was.
In our dreams, we fly, and see what once was.

Just who is responsible now for this dry lake bed,

the fish are gone. the wild things are all dead?

Why are the beautiful geese to fly here no more,

dark flies all feast on the carnage, by the score?

The trees are now leafless, for lack of blessed rain,

just who has left behind this shameful red stain?

Where is the pure air that we all did once breathe,

while those by the hundreds, may seek to deceive?

When will we have our grand blue skies, once again,

and a better tomorrow, in our gratitude, to begin?

Must we go to sleep amid our nightmares, so bleak,

no food in our stomachs, that we each do seek?

Are men responsible for this travesty, that's so grim,

To tarnish this planet, then in clouding this gem?

Will a radiant future earth, await us all, some fine day,

As gray squirrels scamper, and brown deer, to play?

Should our lives become better, if the bad ones all did go,

new worlds to conquer, flying to worlds, they don't know?

Would societies just repeat the mistakes made, once again,

As in dreams, our fond thoughts fly away in the wind?

Whonu, I pray we've learned our lesson. In my blog, I try to offer solutions to the problems Man has created for our blessed Earth. I truly hope that, through awareness, we can begin to repair the damage we've done.

I found that I am compelled to be the "conscience" of my fellow men and women and perhaps to remind us all that we should be more aware of what we are doing and the resulting impact of our behavior, especially for our inheritance. It just seems that the further we go the more damage is taking place, at times, and we can't ignore it, can we. Thanks for your supporting words my friend. whonu

Sobering thoughts here in this profound poem. Thank you for opening our eyes to such travesties.

Wow, this poem is wonderful. You express your message beautifully and I wish everyone on the planet had the same concerns. Too many are ignoring the damage that is being done. Voted up.

Your message is good and brings an awareness of how man affects the earth with his actions.

We are the stewards of our earth. Nothing 'just' goes away. This was a very true piece, and we must take action before it is too late.
