A summer vacation seminar

Updated on May 8, 2013

2012: An intense three-day seminar for college students

To celebrate the midpoint of summer break, I'm inviting about a dozen students to a three-day free seminar in my office (outside of NYC) on July 30, 31 and August 1st, 2012.

This page contains an overview of the seminar and a link to the application. You'll need to hurry as the deadline is the morning of July 13th.

This event is perfect for full-time college students who are interested in pushing themselves, connecting with others on the same journey, and perhaps for those who are looking for a chance to see how much they can learn and do in 72 hours.

I can only admit a tiny fraction of those that apply, and I hope that if we don't pick you out, you'll organize your own group and amplify your summer. Please don't email me with questions, etc. There's a FAQ form at the bottom of this page.

Enjoy the dog days, and thanks for your interest.

Three days to change your approach (or amplify it)

Just about everything you need to know is available online. So why give up three days to sit in a room when you could read some ebooks instead?

My goal in this seminar (and in most of the seminars I run) is to help you find a new posture, to see the doors that are open and to connect you to others who can join you in making a difference.

The three days will be spent on some overview, some conversation and some project work. You'll be presenting to the group, building out hypothetical (or real) plans and doing group work. There will be about six hours a day in my office and another 4 to 10 hours on your own with other students.

I want to help you understand basic storytelling, the realities of marketing online, the new economics of the connection economy, simple spreadsheet analysis and advanced communication and bootstrapping skills.

I think college is the perfect place to stop getting A's and start making a ruckus, as it's a lot harder to shift gears later. I know that it was a transformative moment in my career and I'd like to help share some of that thinking.

The more prepared you are when you get there, the faster you'll go, but I'm eager for poets, physicists and others to join the group. The key attribute you'll bring is the right kind of passion to lean in, learn and do.

Do you know who painted this painting? It's a good story.

You can find the application by clicking on the picture

But don't fill out your application until you read what the seminar is about and are sure you can make it if you get in.

Thanks.

PS remember, no need to be a business major or quant jock to come. This isn't about what you already know, it's about what you've made and where you're hoping to go.

Some of my books

We'll be covering most of them, briefly.

If you have a question about the program that I didn't answer, please post it here. I'll grab the relevant ones and answer them for everyone, below.

@seth godin: My friend who'd got into your program had just showed me this opportunity. Wish i'd seen this earlier. (BTW you cant stop me if I just happen to follow my friend to your office :) jk)

How can I find out about more opportunities like this?

The form told us to check back on the 19th, but it appears as though the names have already been posted! Is this the final list, or will new info be posted on the 19th?

My potential candidate would be staying in Bronxville. What is the city where this would be held?
