What should the US do with stored nuclear waste?
Japan's recent tragedy and ongoing crisis prompted me to ask this queston since we also store spent nuclear fuel at nuclear reactor sites.
For Japan's sake using the fuel rods inside of nuclear facilities is a very efficient way to reduce risk and create power. As for storing spent nuclear rods is the problem of accelerating the decomposition of the nuclear material, tests have shown that exposer to solar radiation will increase the decay of ions, so the future of storing nuclear waste will be in space. Only if the cost to send the material in space was cheaper!
The storage facility at Yucca Mountain in Nevada was specifically constructed inside the mountain to safely store the spent nuclear fuel. Self serving politicians and activists have succeeded in blocking that plan and so we now we find ourselves with no viable alternative. While it is true that transporting the 41,000 tons of spent nuclear fuel to Yucca would be a dangerous and difficult procedure the opinion of most scientist, in the field, is that the transportation could be carried out successfully within acceptable safety protocols. There will always be objections raised to this plan however it must be measured against the potential cost of doing nothing as this enormous quantity of deadly spent fuel rods continues to be stored, on site, within aging nuclear plants around country.

Another 911? Wake up people. If this bozo was giving Nuclear material to Al Qaeda, where do you think they will use it? And then the war goes on? And the fake terrorist mission riles up blind Americans? Everyone, everyone should read this: http://in.news.yahoo.com/cia-spy-davis- … 3-452.html
