Distance learning schools like Penn Foster and US Career Institute and other schools like this are first and foremost business. I would check with the Better Business Bureau about these types of colleges. I would also check forums and posts about the schools. If you call the school and talk with the representative you will only here good things about the school. That's just what they are paid to do, to sell you on enrolling because sadly at the end of the day, it is and will always be about money. If you check out a forum from people who have graduated or are currently enrolled you get a better picture of what you are getting into. You know, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Most traditional colleges do have online degree programs. You have two options; you can call and ask if they offer online degree programs not just online classes or you can go to the schools official web site and look under academic programs and look for online degree programs.
