Nah--well, who knows? I'm not psychic and I am one of the few who do not accept that the ancient Mayans have predicted the end of the world. But the world certainly has a chance of easily ending. Nobody cares of course, because they all think that when it ends, we will all go to a magical kindgom in heaven. I think they are wrong--oh well. We are adrift in a violent universe on a very fragile ecosystem. A relatively small comet could wreak havok on us, as could a solar flare, or a gamma ray burst. Wandering black holes, supernovae, and meteors are out there. We have super volcanoes that are overdue for explosion and climate change (that some in the US won't even ackowledge) that is making summers hotter and winters colder. Nevermind that our economies are nearing collapse, that we are completely dependent on technology, or that we are overpopulating the earth. Nevermind that the US is so covered with nuclear power plants that, if left unattended, will all explode, kill everything, and turn the continent into a nuclear wasteland. I haven't even mentioned nuclear weapons and the real prospect of war we have. So 2012 is as good as any other year for it.
