We were learning so much in those years: lessons, of course, but friendships, disputes, fitting in, seeing ourselves as others saw us, things we liked, things we disliked, human differences, etc. Some of life's lessons were painful, some joyous, some just uproarious. We may have learned empathy and compassion, or other less admirable aberrations which passed with time. We learned how to lose and how to choose. We learned teachers are humans too, some strong and admirable, some weak and ineffective. Regardless of our circumstances we learned even when we thought we found life so difficult.
