West Quoddy Head Lighthouse in Lubec, ME is the eastern most point in the US. Here is a link for more info about the lighthouse: http://www.lighthouse.cc/westquoddy/
It is not far from Campobello Island where FDR had a summer home:http://www.lighthouse.cc/westquoddy/.
Interestingly, Campobello Island is part of Canada. The FDR property is a U.S. National Park in a foreign country. Even more interesting is that you can get there by car from the US, but can only get there by boat from Canada. (The ferry to or from mainland Canada is a very interesting adventure. It is actually a 2 ferry trip).
The real debate in Maine is where does the sun rise first (a "big issue" for 1/1/2000)? Is it seen first at the eastern most point in the US, West Quoddy or at the highest, eastern most point, Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park http://www.acadiamagic.com/cadillac-summit-01.html...
I have been to all of these places when I lived in Maine.
