If the Constitution gave us the right to bear arms, meaning muskets, how does it apply today?
High-powered killing machines, such as assault rifles, as well as easy to conceal semi-automatic handguns, were not written into the Constitution.
The right to bear arms means the right to bear weapons (to arm oneself) be that arm a firearm, sword, knife, club or whatever. The right isn't restricted to weapons that existed at the time. Using that same reasoning there would be no freedom of speech or expression rights afforded to the creators of motion pictures, video tapes, DVDs, CDs, photographs, digital media or any media that didn't exist at the time the constitution was written.
The right to bear arms represents the balance of power between the people and the state. It is even more necessary as our government continues to become more powerful and aggressive. We are moving closer to a police state. The state should NEVER have a monopoly on the use of force. All tyrannical regimes began with disarming the citizens. Armed people do not get led to gas chambers. In the last century over 100 million people were killed by their own governments. Do not think it could not happen here. Read the National Defense Authorization Act and realize that this is not the legislation that represents free people.

Should U.S. citizens continue to be able to have guns (assuming they carry a permit)? Hillary Clinton doesn't think so. There are several sides to this argument. One consideration should be that certain people need guns in the course of their jobs such as law enforcement (a given), but...

Say we no longer have the right to bare arms. The government is doing a sweep collecting all registered firearms. Would you allow your right to go down the river or would you stand up to the regime and refuse? Either way give me some opinions please be honest.

... to carry regardless of state or local laws?I think the Supreme Court will rule today that Americans, all Americans have the constitutional right to carry guns and states and cities can not limit that right! This is huge and if the cour rules as I suspect will be an affirmation of liberty as the...

Do people really have the right to bear arms/own a gun (that's registered)? Should we ban guns?Of course the main question here is should we ban guns? It's a dangerous tool used for shooting. Even if the gun is registered to you and you abuse it in any way, should you be banned from buying or...

Why do Americans think their right to bear arms is more important than people's lives?

Okay so another guy dresses up like The Joker and kills people. I will resist the urge to state how bizarre and coincidental that is and stick to the question. The media is intent on showing Americans all the LEGAL gun killings they can while not informing us about the countless lives that are...
