First of all, being an atheist does not necessitate a 'trust in science'.
Speaking as one of those atheists that does 'trust in science' I can only give you my 'view'.
Science is what makes sense, If I can't say "well why does x happen" or "how does x happen" about something then I have no reason to not believe it is true.
Therefore, my, and other atheists' trust in science is based on logic and basic human understanding.
I simply demand to know details, specifics and reasoning before I change the way I live.
I do not base any of my decisions on 'faith' because 'faith' is "complete trust or confidence in someone or something."
Science is not about trust, it is about fact.
