   It really depends on if you believe there is Life out there somewhere? Up until now, I don't think there has been enough proof.

      There hasn't sufficient proof, agreed, but if you just think about it. Millions of galaxies, and clusters. Ignoring the claims of uneducated guesses and use science as medium. Why would that combination of "life" only be possible on our planet

   No I don't think it's odd.  I actually believe we were created by an advanced species.  It sure would explain a lot of our past, such as writing, religions, and why we can't find the link between humans and apes.

   All I know is that the universe is HUGE, so HUGE it is difficult to comprehend it's sheer vastness. They say "There are more planets "out there" than grains of sand on all the beaches on Earth".....  if that statement is true than the odds that some of the planets and galaxies might support life are ridiculously high. The question is, how advanced? and how far away? If the universe is really THAT big, then there must be advanced civilizations.(somewhere)
   Some say the universe "goes on forever".... if that's the case, then I submit that if the Universe really goes on forever then everything must exist, somewhere.

   No it isn't. The universe is enormous and there are multiple possibilities as far as advanced species, alternate universes, and multiple planes of existence. Anyone who believes we are the most advanced species is either completely ignorant of science or completely arrogant in themselves. To create so much war and destruction of our own planet, we are not that advanced.

   I find it incredibly arrogant to think that, of all of the possibilities in the grand measure of it all, that we are the most advanced. I think that, somewhere, another existance waits for us to find a way to cross the great gulf between us.

   I find it intriguing to think that many of the things that make us so special compared to every other species on the planet -- art, music, religion, ect. -- were actually done by the Neanderthal at the same time, if not before Homo Sapiens did. 
   There was a time when we were arguably not even the most advanced species on our own planet.

   No it isn't.  Given the immensity of the universe, and the time scales involved, and the likelihood of earth-like planets, it seems to be pure arrogance to think that we are the best there is.  But, having said that, there is still not one shred of hard evidence to suggest otherwise.
   
   Anyway, I guess time will tell.  I just hope I live long enough to see it.

   Yes, it's odd in the sense that it's unusual. Most people think that their own gender, race, religion or nation is superior to that of other people... so it's natural to think that we're the best in the Universe.
   
   It's also naive.
   
   I write hubs about Mars and I swear there's a UFO outside my window most nights. There, now I officially can't run for office!

    The most advanced at what? On Earth, we -think- we're the most intelligent species, but we're not the fastest species (birds of prey, cheetahs), the strongest (elephants), the most agile (don't know how you'd pick a winner here), the most numerous (there's far more biomass of ants and especially of bacteria), the longest-lived species (bristlecone pine), or the best at many other things.
    
    I'm not going to speculate as to whether there is other life out there away from Earth, but we don't need to leave Earth to find species that are more 'something' than us. We're not the pinnacle of evolution; there was nothing inevitable about man. We just are.

    I think that the ability to built complex civilazation, language, science, the arts etc make human beings the number on species on this planet.  What advantages the other animals have naturally humans could figure out a way to compensate with technology.
    
    With that said, I think that there is a possibility that we are not the number one species in the universe.  Considering the size, and the age of the universe, I think that there is a great possibility that there are more advanced species out there. In addition, some of the ancient civilizations speak of the "star people".  Also consider the fact that no one really know how the Pyramids in Egypt were built.  I understand that even with the modern technology we could not build a structure so grand and so percise.

    No it is not.  I do believe the odds would favor that we are not the most intelligent. However, I do believe we have been given the greatest advantage to indeed be the most intelligent on our blue planet, called Earth. That significant advantage is an organ of approximately 3 lbs loaded with billions of neurons and relatively well protected in our cranium.
    There is an equation called the Drake Equation that SETI uses to determine the odds of finding other intelligent life and it is too early to draw conclusions from this. We only have a handle on 3 (namely R*, fp, and ne) of the 7 variables to date... Thus one can speculate and only qualitively conclude in all probability that we are not; however, no one can be certain and there is currently no quantitative data to support it. Yet the vastness of the Universe combined with its significant dynamic nature would tend one to think that it is not odd...
