I live in the Vail Valley in Colorado and we do have a couple of "choice" schools in our district. There is one elementary school that is focused on Expeditionary Learning Outward Bound, which allows students to learn content in a themed way. Another school is accredited as an International Baccalaureate school, providing students with an international education focused on social studies and science themes. We also have two dual language schools in the valley.
Some children definitely benefit from these choice schools, however, it really depends on the child's learning style and motivation to learn. Success would also depend on the administrator and teachers in the school.
