What is your experience with online certificates?
I will be starting an online certificate for Victim Advocacy and the 14th cannot get here fast enough. Excited and a bit paranoid.
What is the certification supposed to lead to would be my question? Is it for work? Is it part of a degree program? Just a course your interested in taking?
If its work related or degree related you should check with your states, cities, or countries (not sure where you are) offices and make sure the course you are taking meets all the requirements for certification, licnesure, etc.
I went to college online, and recieved and accredited degree. Had that degree that took four year been through a university that was not accredited it would be a worthless piece of paper....although the information learned will stay with me always.
It really depends on your main goals at the end of your certification journey. Good luck.

I have no experience with online certificates, however victim advocacy is very serious and important. Kudos to you for taking it. I am not sure if you are questioning the quality of the course, or just wanting to know various experiences regarding getting a certificate through an onine course. I will say that with anything, you get out of it what you put into it. Are you taking the course for persona reasons or for work related reasons?
I don't think you have told enough for a valid answer but if you mean this is a course such as college then I see nothing wrong with it. I took college courses online and thought they may be looked down upon but i can tell you if this is anything like college courses you will know your stuff when you get done, if you want the knowledge and grade. I am amazed how real online classes are. You can pretend you are dressed but you can't fool anyone at being smart if you are not. I would say that grade has to be worked harder at than in person.
I'm waiting to get my first one from University of Michigan. It was a challenging class in Model Thinking and included lots of every day applications. I'm scheduled for 2 legal classes and 4 music classes this spring. I love it!!!
You haven't given enough information here for me to weigh and consider a response. While online forums can be beneficial, some things require practical application in real world settings, so can you provide more information? LOL, paranoia.
I have no experience but I would do a Google search for [the course and institution offering the course and "complaints"]. Get at least other opinions on courses offered by other institutions and their accreditation (the Secretary of Education is required by law to publish a list of nationally recognized accrediting agencies that the Secretary determines to be reliable authorities as to the quality of education or training provided by the institutions of higher education and the higher education programs they accredit).
If there are negatives associated with the online certificate you are pursuing or the institution offering it you should at least be fully aware and posting your question here is a good start to finding out more!
Accreditation is important in checking out the institution, but you need to compare coursework as well (online v real world setting). Also check into the profession and the required skill sets necessary to gain a position.
Sorry about not adding more. I am going to be taking an accredited online course not for credit. I will hopefully be starting school in the fall for social work. The certificate will just be a little something to help prepare me to one day be a victim advocate.

Have you ever had a bad experience with a private or online college?Questionable recruitment tactics, lies about accreditation, poor instructors, etc. If so, please explain and offer the name of the school if you wish.

Do you think an online education should be just as credible as a brick and mortar school education?

Do you think online degrees programs are useless? Some people think that online degree programs are scams and degrees obtained following an online degree program lacks in recognition.
