Their weight is evenly distributed over the water's surface tension. Maybe they can walk on upside down surfaces due to micro hairs on their feet and their light weight physique
p.s. if you don't like mosquitoes then mix some soap in with some water and leave it in a mosquito riddled area. The soap will reduce the water's surface tension and the mosquitoes will drown
