Ian Fleming is the author of the James Bond 007 series of books. I believe his first book was Casino Royal. He wrote quite a number. However, by the time he was 'discovered' he was already a sick man. He died of cancer shortly after the first or second James Bond movies came out so he didn't make a lot of money out of the those films.
I read somewhere that he had been a 'spook' in his earlier days, working for MI6 or some-such in the UK during WW2, but I'm sure about that.
His books were no where near as exaggerated or action-packed as the films were later to become. As we know, they get more spectacular and more exaggerated as time goes on...but that is probably their attraction.
