If you were an alien observing the human race, would you make your presence know

If you were an alien observing the human race, would you make your presence known?

If aliens had travelled through space to observe life on Earth, one would assume that they would have superior intelligence. Putting yourself in their position, would you actually make yourself known to us, or would you avoid contact?

Are you kidding?  The chance to be a "fly on the wall" would be too irresistible!  The chance to see and hear what folks say when they think no one is watching is, by definition, rare to impossible unless you're some sort of wannabe spy nutjob with bugs and recorders and all that.

But then, if I were an extra-terrestrial alien, would I care as much, having no history or "baggage" with humanity or any member thereof?  Hmmmm...

We observe other animals, but have a habit of interfering, often with dire consequences. What if we were the observers of another planet, what would you do?

I would observe, in hiding, and not interfere.

It would depend in part on why I came to Earth. If I were here strictly for observational purposes, to study and research the life on the planet, then I'd want to avoid making my presence known as much as possible. If I reveal who I am, then my purpose is jeopardized and my impact on the society of the planet (not to mention my own life) may be at risk.

Now if I came for some other reason, such as to offer an ultimatum to the planet in order to prevent some impending doom (in the vein of "The Day the Earth Stood Still") then obviously I'm going to want to make as grand an entrance as possible, so that there's no mistaking my origin so as to drive my message home as soon as possible.

Observation is one thing, but don’t you think that if an alien race were to make itself known to us they would want more than just to save us from ourselves?

Vlorsutesposted 10 years agoin reply to this

It depends really. Some scientists, philosophers, etc feel that a race intelligent enough to be able to reach us wouldn't necessarily need anything from us, so who knows why they'd want to contact us.

I wouldn't make myself obviously noticeable, but I would like humans to acknowledge the existence of aliens, like myself smile However, I wouldn't scare humans or harm them. I like your question!

But if you revealed yourself my alien friend, don’t you think that, through the media, you would become an overnight news event across the world? Then what? And what would the humans do to you?

Ditto on Vlorsutes answer. But I'd like to add that if my purpose was to unite the human race, there would be no better way than to just reveal that I exist. Being the arrogant, selfish species that we are, what would squelch that better than knowing that there was something outside of ourselves? Possibly something superior that we could only co-exist with as a human race rather than a bunch of separate countries, cultures and beliefs.

Very true, but as with comment to Copper Man; an alien presence could undermine the human religious basis, would we worship them as a new God, of fight them in the name of God?

IDONOposted 10 years agoin reply to this

Why would we worship or fight them? If we believe God to be the creator of everything, they would be children of God, just like us, wouldn't they?

Human nature, conspiracy theories, fear, prejudice not to mention greed and power & not everyone believes in God. Do you think an alien race would also be created in God’s image?
If they are like us… then prepare to be invaded!

I believe the Vatican not too long ago released some sort of news that if any evidence came out to prove the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence, that it wouldn't be considered an affront to Catholic belief.

lumen2light. Sure. Afterall, God's image is a perception, not a photo or something. I'm not preaching. Just conversation. But, you are right. I think some of them are disguised as hubbers. I need to read profiles much better. May the blog be with you

I am guessing that no one here has ever watched Ancient Aliens..or gone to the site BibleUFO.com?

My Lady, just checked out the BibleUFO.com, Got to give them credit, looks like they took the interpretation of Bible to the extreme. It’s a bit like interpreting a child’s nightmare to prove the parents need to be lock up!

Ah did you read about the vehicles and the highways and the creatures and all those pages?  Too far fetched for you right now.  That's OK, it was for me too in the beginning.

Never. If they are observing, they should always remain on the side lines. Making contact would disrupt the study.

Unknown and I'm busy enough with life on earth than to worry about it now.

I think it would be unwise on the part of the alien. With humans so suspicious of each other and holding onto age-old resentments, an alien would not fare very well. The alien would face danger from all directions. Perhaps, when humans become more human-like, we shall reveal ourselves. But not before.

Well put, do you think we would persecute the alien, or would the alien be treated like a God? If the latter, what would that do to religion?

  8. Savio Dawson profile image91
    Savio Dawsonposted 10 years ago

I won't. The first site of aliens makes the humans run for evasive action, as if there is only one purpose the aliens have, and that is to kill people.

Better to stay away and stay hidden!

I agree, we can dream about alien life, but we as a race are not ready to accept their existence.

  9. Lady Guinevere profile image66
    Lady Guinevereposted 10 years ago

I would only observe them as they have a nasty habit of taking things apart to see what makes them tick, killing it it the process.  humans are very scared of anything that is not like themselves and will kill because of this fear that they may be killed first.  It's sort of like Shoot first then ask questions.  The best things to do if you want to stay live is to hide from them or in their midst.

My Lady, I totally agree, we as a race still have a lot to learn. Only when we can learn to work with nature and our own race, instead of manipulating and modifying it to suit our needs will we be anywhere near being ready to accept Alien life forms.
