Topics you cannot write on
I was trying to write a hub about the benefits of abstinence for teens. Can I not write on this topic? I got a dollar sign violation. Shall I not publish/ can I not ever publish? It was a lot of work and it really did not say anything "bad."
Well first off the dollar sign doesn't mean it's not published, it just means you won't have any ads on it. If you want to leave it up for free for the benefit of the public there is an option you can chose to take the ads off willingly so you're not violating any hub policies. You *might* be able to ask the moderators if you can still have ads since it is educational but if the word abortion shows up anywhere you can forget about it! Most often you can forget about it as well if you have words relating to sex or sexual anatomy, including the word sex itself! Advertisers are apparently very afraid of being linked to such things - especially in a political arena.
Don't worry, this happens to the best of us. It doesn't mean you've said anything "bad." I have written a number of articles on animal biology and woman's rights issues that have also come up with this problem. Good luck! And sorry you found out a bit too late on this one!
Thanks so much for your kind answer. I am bummed! It is educational but it does say "sex education" a lot. I haven't published it yet. Not sure if I will even try.... But might look into the disabling ads... I would be happy to just have it up!
I wrote a hub about sex education and it was also flagged. I wrote them an email to find the specific reason and it was because of a single word. I changed that word to a different term and it was fine for about a month and then it was flagged again so I just turned ads off.
If you aren't concerned about ads, then just turn ads off and publish it. Ads can be turned off by editing your hub and going to the section on the right side for "display options". Click that to expand and there should be a checkbox for ads. Switch it to off.
Thank you! I will do that. So, if you turn the ads off, it will be ok to publish? It won't be violating any terms?
The issue with ads comes from Google and they are more picky than Hubpages (in my experience). From what you have describe it will not violate Hubpage's terms, but only they can say for sure.
I hope you do get your hub up. There are no 'difficult' topics, only 'difficult' people ;-)

Have any of you found detestable ads on your hubs? It is a "game" with girls in bras...how distasteful I want it off my hub...do you know if we have a say in this? It has nothing to do with my poem and is disgusting to me.

Would this work or is ranking predominately determined by a network site's rating? Would it help get more traffic so that backlinks would potentially be more likely to be produced pointing to an article, then ads could be turned back on again later?

Do I need to have ads on in my hubs to qualify them to be chosen such as Hub of the Day? I know I was told that had nothing to do with scores on hubs but just wondered if they had to be open to ads for that? Thanks.

As a consequence of seeing a post in the political and social area discussions, I decided to do a Hub Pages search for marijuana. There are quite a few published hubs about it. So, are Hubbers allowed to write about it, or not? The hubs I saw had Google ads displayed on them, too. I am confused.

I once received a warning that switching off ads on one of my pages was against TOS because the page was considered commercial. It was a long, deeply boring and rather technical effort concerning Synthetic Biology (google if you dare).I deleted the page (it never got any views anyway). Now Paul...
