Do teachers command respect in West?
In India, respecting teachers is an expected quality from students, irrespective of whether a teacher deserves it or whether students really give it to unworthy teachers. But good teachers are always remembered and respected lifelong.
How about western countries? Are teachers respectable figures? Do students expect teachers to be behave dignified both inside the class and also outside? Are there any unwritten codes of behavior expected of the teachers? If a young teacher is seen in kissing boy friend in a public place, will the students take it lightly ("it's her personal matter")?
Unfortunately, not many people are respected in the West today. It is the result of parents not being home, not teaching their children any values; but, more importantly, not respecting anyone or anything themselves.
There are still communities of people who are trying to make a difference and live their lives in a kind and gentle way, respecting others and being respected in turn; but, it appears to be a losing battle.
Teachers can sometimes bear the brunt of this disrespect and teaching can be a life-threatening job in some places. Most teachers try to live their morals both inside and outside the classroom.
To see a teacher kissing a boyfriend in public would be acceptable; but, making a display of it would not.
Teachers need to earn respect not just demand it, forced respect as with anything forced on people cause great problems at every level. Mr. Rajan your nation is a great example of this very issue, British rule, then the breaking up into 3 seporate nations, all becasue people in charge demanded things that they did not earn.
