Of course, there is much that flesh and blood simply cannot understand.But what I do understand is that my purpose is "not" the pursuit of happiness. "Happy people" spend their lives seeking to acquire, and then maintain a level of happiness for themselves, and perhaps for a few family members, or loved ones. Otherwise, they do nothing to improve the state of the world; for fear that moving too far to the left, or too far to the right, might jeopardize their happiness.
John Brown wasn't happy as he went down to Harper's Ferry; Mandela wasn't happy to sit in a prison for 27 years. and Jesus certainly wasn't happy hanging on a cross. But some things need to be done. I must be doing something right, because the last several years I have been absolutely miserable, but in the meantime, I have made significant progress.
