In circumstances such as this, I try to sit down with that person and have a talk regarding their objections, concerns etc. Sometimes just knowing that the other person does care about their thoughts, feelings and emotions in this particular situation will bring the beloved one around to your way of thinking.
If this doesn't progress as well as you would have hoped, try compromise. Sometimes, an even better solution will present itself when a win-win compromise is strived for.
