Solar doesn't deplete. Wind power doesn't deplete. Hydrothermal doesn't deplete. Those that do deplete are natural gas (fracking) and tar sands. How?
Fracking is the method most commonly used to extract natural gas. This method inserts chemicals into the earth that are highly toxic, poisoning any water that flows through the earth anywhere along the pipelines and wells (which usually leak). Poisonous surface spills are common. Extra gases blown out by the well are set on fire and add to air pollution (also common). Fracking includes a reinjection process, where liquids that come up with the gas are put back into the earth. That process sets off earthquakes. And who knows what the earth uses natural gas for in its own health maintenance systems? To even out the heat produced from its core, perhaps?
Tar sands extraction converts black sands into oil, using natural gas to do so. It uses up a substance that's less polluting than what it produces. What sense does that make? It also poisons surface water badly and requires deforestation of its surroundings.
