What legendary creature is said to inhabit the Pine Barrens of Southern New Jersey, United States?

And has anyone determined exactly what this creature is?

It has to be the Jersey Devil of the Pine Barrens,if I am correct-a flying goat-like creature with hooves and bat wings

Yep. You are right, Mihnea. That picture is very familiar to a lot of people who swear they have seen it. Thanks for your answer.

There used to be a verified infrared on YouTube of the beast that appears no longer up. It appeared just like the usual descriptions and drawings. This is one very strange looking cryptid and lord knows how it got in the Barrens. I don't believe the cursed birth story of the 18th century but if it's real where could it possibly have come from?

I have watched that video, Alastar - spooky! There are several others on You Tube. Some people have a theory the cryptid is a very large mutant owl, like the Great Grey Owl, sometimes called Phantom of the North. Thank you for the comment.

Why is Big Foot of course! Isn't he everywhere these days?
I'm interested in the unusual and paranormal so it would be interesting to see if some new strange creature actually exists.

Hi Stacie - no, not Big Foot. It is the Jersey Devil. Hey - thanks for answering.

It is indeed the New Jersey Devil(s). Legend has it they will roam the Jersey swamps until they can bring in the most significantly great, French Canadian (goalie) once again so the infamous quest for the silver chalice can end..
It behooves me; however, the sketch provided by Hubber Mihnea is not entirely accurate, perhaps there should be skates instead of hooves?

Yep - NJ Devil. I think the sketch probably came from wikipedia. Skates just might be more appropriate ... Thanks, John.
