Why would it? It just isn't a planet. "Planet" isn't some honorary title that was cruelly ripped from poor Pluto. it's a simple designation with criteria that Pluto just doesn't fit - no one would call our moon a planet, no matter how much we love it, same should be of Pluto. It isn't like astrophysicists and the lot suddenly declared a war on Pluto or something, haha. In the end, as far as the average person is concerned, it's all semantics. To the scientists that work with astronomy, they need to figure out how to accurately label things and aren't, and shouldn't be, concerned with nostalgia or some weird emotional attachment to the phrase "My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas" or whatever you learned in elementary school.
