The 20th Century has seen by far the greatest advances in technology. On the one hand, it has enabled vast populations to live well; in First World Nations, even the poorest have enough to eat. That's why in America, poor people are fat! Rich people are thin because they have the leisure to do sports and go to the gym. In developing nations, being fat is a privilege only to the wealthy.
Overall, the world is improving because of technology. However, the potential to do harm is also greater. War has gotten far worse; it used to be soldiers fought on the battlefield, but now civilians are more likely to get involved. The whole world can even be annihilated with one bomb by the push of a button.
So, with our great privilege of technological advances comes the great responsibility of properly and ethically managing it.
