From our sexual preferences, the food we eat, our choice of lifestyle etc we are told DNA controls us and makes our decisions for us like a "big brother". Does this prove that this molecule has complex intelligence? How else could so many things about us be totally ruled by a plain old molecule?

I understand your argument but isn't the DNA both the data and also the applying of data? What other force is ultimately applying it?
Yes, cells are intelligent. All the intricate cell, tissue and organ functioning withing our bodies are run by the software program of the DNA. Even when we are asleep or unconscious, our body keeps functioning - it is the inherent intelligence .
Are you saying this may qualify as a kind of intelligence? After all it is alleged DNA controls our intelligence.
Hi Oztinato, I would say DNA IS intelligence. It is the coded form of intelligence & behaves more humanly than we can ever think. In fact in this age, our DNA consists of only two strands as compared to 12 in the Vedic period.
DNA may contain a lot of data, but data is different than intelligence. A dictionary also contains a lot of data, but it can't do any problem solving, wonder about itself, or hold an interesting conversation. It is neither intelligent nor sentient.
modern computers are getting close to actual AI but they're less complex than DNA! We can't say DNA is AI.
DNA definitely does problem solving. The inherent consciousness and what we call as 'intuition' is linked to our DNA. Awareness is the keyword; it works even when we are not aware; imagine its extent once we are aware of its extent.
Yes and No Ozt, the key to our understanding appeared as; P=G+E+GE, P=phenotype=trails that we observed, G=genotypes=genes-DNA or the genetic constitution of the individual, E=environment=food=education =social interaction, etc. GE= Interaction
