Looking at it from a happiness point of view, and I take it that's what you're asking, my Best decade was from 2001 - 2010, especially the first eight years of this. I was retired (still am) and doing lots of very interesting and enjoyable things.
My Worst was the 1980s, especially the first eight years of that one. I was in my forties, in a job I despised, and felt that my younger and more 'adventurous life' was over (as it was) Thank God for a voluntary redundancy offer in the mid 1990s, from thereon things improved markedly.
Don't ever knock 'retirement.' One then has real freedom for the first time in one's life.
