   Besides the invention of fire and the resurrection of Christ, I'd suggest the event that has changed the world the most has been the advent of the Internet.  It has flattened the world, opening lines of communication that never existed before. 
   
   I'm sure other generations would come up with different answers depending on what most directly affected them.  But access to the Internet may well be the event that historians look back on the same way we look at A.D. and B.C.

   Electricity, allowing us to invent labor saving devices that enabled women to do things other than housework, enabling refrigeration that reduced food borne illnesses such that it no longer kills one in three children worldwide, supports air conditioning and electric heating so that we don't have to denude forests to keep warm or lose people to respiratory illnesses at 40 from cooking over a fire.

   Because I understand everything about what has happens on earth is predestined the only answer I can give is "the fact that earth exists and the different world events are a part of that existence."  Since so few man recognize that most will disagree but it doesn't change the truth of that.
