We are shifting from male dominant female secondary to more of an equal, helpmate status.
This will not eliminate women's preferences for working part time or focusing on childcare when they have children. It simply gives more social credence to the minority of women who are ambitious with stay at home husbands or husbands who are equally invested in "the home" to give her more support.
Gender roles will not become a thing of the past since only women can bear children and disproportionately want to raise their own children. Nor will it alter men's tendency to work longer hours because they define themselves more by their actions, their careers, than their relationships.
