If we have a scale do it like this

1 2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256 512 1024 2048 4096 5192

So lets say that we want to convert 6143 into binary. We find the largest number that is smaller than the original number and subtract.

We take the 14th place 5192 and subtract it from 6143 then we have 951.

We then take the next largest number that is smaller than 951 and subtract this from 951. That is 512 in the 10th place and the resultant is 439.

Then 256 in the 9th place and the resultant is: 183

Then 128 in the 8th place and the resultant is: 55

Then 32 in the 6th place and the resultant is: 23

Then 16 in the 5th place and the resultant is: 7

then 4 in the 3rd place and the resultant is: 3

Then 2 in the 2nd place and the resultant is: 1

Then 1 in the 1st place and we are done and the resultant is zero.

This becomes

10001110110111

So all we did was fill in the places where we had a resultant divider and voila we have the conversion.

There are other ways but this is pretty simple and to make your table just keep multiplying by 2.
