I would absolutely recommend it, I live in the north of England and sadly most of the schools around have very poor standards, we sent the kids to see how it would turn out.  Well it was a complete disaster, so we took it to be our duty as parents to educate them at home, the kids are aged 4 to 14, it is a lot of hard work but totally worthwile. If you have the time and patience go for it, its a great feeling to see them grow in confidence and knowledge.

Absolutely. I was home schooled, back before it was "cool" and I got a lot out of it. My brother sister and I were taught together by my Mom. It was a great experience. As a parent myself I am considering it with my son, now especially because the resources out there to help you are phenomenal. You might check out www.homeschool.com or www.hslad.org both are excellent sources for information, if you have any follow up questions please e-mail me and I will try to help out anyway I can.

I would recommend it for parents who have patience and the energy to put into the prep work needed to home school. There are many good homeschooling options and each parent will need to check which system works for them and meets the requirements of their area. I've known families who really enjoy having the freedom to go on field trips, have their children participate in special events like dance competitions in other countries. Those experiences are worth a lot more than sitting in a classroom, but the parents have to be creative in making sure their children get these kind of opportunities. Most communities have homeschooling events that the children can socialize with others in the same situation. It's a great option if you're a hands-on parent and enjoy learning.

There are many success stories with home schooling just as there are many success stories with teachers who give their all in the public school system.  In considering home schooling, I think the emphasis must shift.  First, one of the parents must have the ability to teach, the dedication to teach, and a resolve and focus to carry it out on a daily basis.  I see this as the biggest potential pitfall of home schooling.  The other pitfall revolves around socialization of the child...home schooling is normally an isolated environment thus leaving a child without the skill development opportunities needed to function in the world.  If those two issues are first addressed, the rest of the answers as to whether it is a good choice should become apparent. Home schooled students are typically loners with zero socialization skills, and no ability to adjust to the outside environment. If they have any friends at all it is typically a sibling, and they are even worse off if they are only children because this means that they will not be able to adjust and function as an adult. read more

Definitly,  it is scary to start with but worth it in the end.
