Wow, both good and complex questions;
I believe that generally people with DID report losing time, having blank spaces in their memory, waking up in unusual places and/or having people tell them about things they did which they do not recollect. Dissociation is a defense mechanism that allows one's consciousness to split off in order not to have to deal with an unbearably cruel, harsh reality. We all do a little dissociating from time to time - 'spacing out' is a little like that, when our thoughts & attention are directed somewhere other than where we are at the time. So, to answer you directly, my current understanding is that someone with DID would not remember details of things which happened when another alter was out and that the experience is more like a splitting of consciousness that something like an out of body experience. Thanks for your questions & apologies for the extremely delayed response.
