Try this Arithmetic, Algebra and Sequences Test

I have prepared this test for you to try. Please put your answers in a ‘Comments’ box. I will give you the correct responses in 2 weeks.

NO GOOGLING OR ASKING OTHERS FOR HELP!

Q1 Solve this equation for y:

3y + 2 = 7y – 1

Q2 Solve this equation for x:

x2 -4x +3 =0

Q3 What is the next number in this sequence?

0 1 1 2 3 5 8 13

Q4 What is the next number in this series?

1 2 4 5 7 8 10.

Q5 If a laptop costs £300 and it has a discount of 30% what price would you pay for it?

Q6 If there are 20 black sheep and 20 white sheep in a field, how many cows are in the field in total?

I will not reveal peoples' answers for 2 weeks unless their comment does not contain any attempt at answering!

Callum – you are allowed to do this test.

Ah okay! I was kind of confused on Q3. I realized that there were no cows, that's why I said that I was not able to determine it. Thanks! :)

Q3 You get the next number by adding the previous 2 together (Fibonacci Sequence)

Q6 Is a trick - there are no cows in the field! I'm going to accept your answer though.

RESULTS DAY.

Here are the correct answers to the test:

Q1 y = 3/4 (0.75).

Q2 x = 1 or 3.

Q3 21.

Q4 11.

Q5 £210.

Q6 0

Callum 4/6

Dave 4/6

So, well done, both of you - you PASSED!

But your algebra - both of you - is rubbish so we'll need to do remedial classes for the next year or so!

The Headteacher is happy also - he says you'll keep the school's results looking good this session.

Ok more words from the dummy.

Don't know the answers to Q1, or Q2 (think they are unsolvable) but Q3 is 21; Q4 is 11; Q5 is 210, and Q6 is 0.
