Is it ever ok to end your life?
Most times when people want to end their life we consider it suicide, some say its a sin, some say its wrong and some say its your choice. What if you were terminally ill, is it still considered suicide just assisted suicide or a humane way of going? Who ultimately decides? Right or wrong?
Every human has free will, without being subjected to judgement of any deity nor karma. It's up to yourself to judge what is best to do, but let this decision come from your 'True Self', not from a damaged ego or some other false feeling.
In my country (Netherlands) euthanasia is legalized, in exactly the cases you mention. There are all kinds of authorities that need to approve every case. It's ultimately all up to one self to decide.
My humble opinion is that suicide is wrong, because it is mostly 'the night of the soul' where one is going through. Like a dark tunnel full of demons where one has to go through. What if the reason of the suicide is something that has to be concurred? What if you're not able to take the task, will it return again and again? (because of more than one life).
I think it is OK to end your life. After all, it is YOUR life, so you should have the final say. I read an article a while back about a guy that was in his 60s and he decided to end his life before he got older or had health problems. He really planned out the whole thing so he did not inconvenience anyone and he made sure all his affairs were in order. He was apparently a control-freak and liked to plan everything in advance. I know a lot of people disagree with him, but I think it was alright that he made such plans, even regarding his own death and death date. He ultimately had complete control of aspect of his life and death.
I do realize suicide can seem selfish, especially those closest to the person who does it. However, sometimes that person does not feel like he or she is valuable to anyone anymore. It is a sickness really. A person committing suicide believes he or she is doing a favor to everyone. You never know what is going on in any person's mind, so it is not really fair to judge a person. You never know if that person is sick and just keeping it secret. You never how much a person suffers.
Until laws are passed nationally in most places it is illegal to have assisted suicide. Only the individual can decide what is best for them.
As of now physician-assisted suicide in the United States is legal in the states of Oregon, Vermont, and Washington. Some ill folks have relocated for that very reason.
Many pet owners have euthanized their pets rather than have them endure the often painful experience of dying. It's humane.
Deep down I believe more people are in favor of allowing the terminally ill to transition on their own terms.
What worries most people are those who might take their lives because they flunked out of college, their boyfriend/girlfriend dumped them, they were fired or laid off from a job, or it's been raining for two weeks straight! Depression plays a large role in most suicides.
It's one thing if a person decides to take their own life because they couldn't handle the ups and downs of life but very few people would support "assisted suicide" in those instances.
Lastly there is the matter of some family members having a financial incentive to (hurry along the death process) for their "loved ones" against their will.
That's why it's important to spell out what one wants in the event of...etc.
It is never okay to end your life, god always has the last say. Its definately a sin to kill yourself without letting GOD have the last say so.
In my opinion, it is never OK to end your life. My mother killed herself and things has never been the same in our family. I agree that there are people who are ill and they want to end their sufferings by being assisted to die but I think even this is not right even. I honestly believe it is not for us to decide our death.

We euthanize our dying pets - do you believe we should offer assisted suicide to the terminally ill? When our beloved pets are unable to function any more, we often euthanize them to end their suffering. If someone is terminally ill and suffering, perhaps even unable to get out of bed or care for...

I watched the new 2010 movie about Jack Kevorkian on HBO. "You don't know Jack" One of the statements they made was that "If a person goes into a coma, the hospitals are allowed to pull the plug and allow you to die" (if the next of kin signs the papers or the patient has a...

Abortion and euthanasia, and suicide all require a cessation of life. For abortion it is a requirement for the cessation of life of the fetus. For euthanasia and suicide, it is a requirement by an already living and viable human being for life to come to an end, or to bring their life to an...
