What do you consider permanent in your life?

   The premise "This too will pass" means that everything in life come and go, it's either we outgrow them or they outgrow us, or in many ways they just have to be left behind; not just objects or material possessions but also relationships, beliefs, emotions, habits,and even learning or knowledge. If this premise is right, is there anything of value in your (my) personal life that you can consider or count as permanent?

      There is nothing permanent. Everything comes on a temporary basis. Even your life is permanent...
      You did not bring along anything when born and you will not take along anything from here, when leaving the world.
      
      P.S - Nothing is Permanent ! Everything is Momentary !!

         What about the soul? What do you say about certain thoughts that the soul never dies, even if the body is long blended with the dust?

            I would say that the soul remains forever, but still wont consider it permanent...I guess, I don;t have enough matter to explain everything...Though, the soul keeps changing itself....

               The soul is the essence of our being. Our body changes as years go by along with many other things abut us and around us but you are still you, I am still me. The soul does not acknowledge time and space, it does not have a yesterday and a tomorrow and it is the seat of everything divine in every human. It is the one that "returns" to the Creator in the event that this material body goes back to the dust. It is the one that connects to the God, or the Universe.The soul is the only thing that is permanent in us...although not many of us would acknowledge or sense its existence with us.

            "Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it." (Ecclesiastes 132:10) All things in this life are temporary, even your faith; because one day faith becomes sight, and the things we will see are eternal, they are not limited by time, space, or matter. With that being said, we should enjoy the things we can in this life (with morality and faith being our compasses) and set our hearts on things eternal where no good thing is limited by time. Yes, the body will return to the earth, but the spirit (soul) is eternal and will return to God to be judged and then sent to it's eternal abode.

      Your life is permanent, that is, till you die, as long as you are breathing, it's permanent. You must be ready to accept responsibility of your actions, that too is unfairly permanent. You need money to survive - which is a bit disturbingly persistent.

         Even attitude towards life and your viewpoint can change. What make the need for money disturbingly persistent is within us...it's all rooted in our "values" system or core beliefs. Core beliefs are actually the most persistent thing that dominates our lives while we live...but then, it can still change if we effort enough, hence the "need" for money can be minimized eventually once the core beliefs are changed.

   Personally, I don't think there is anything you can count as permanent in life. Change occurs all the time. In fact the very beauty of nature is that nothing is permanent, change happens, sometimes quickly, sometimes extremely slowly, but it always happens.

         i'm pretty sure all politicians/government officials at some point in time levied taxes, or kept the ones in existence.. or some equivalent.  They might have not have even called them 'taxes', but I am pretty sure that was the case
         
         I'd love to know an instance if/when that wasn't the case

            Taxes are the lifeblood of any economy. The government cannot stand without it, even in the olden days and the Bible where Jesus mentioned about "Give to Caesar what is due to Caesar." it was called "tribute" to the king. The church call it tithes and offerings.and there was Zacchaeus who was a tax collector...
            Any society, culture, country, association, organization, etc. need money to run it and keep it going.
            It's a law of nature to give back part of your earnings to the source just as a seed when planted must grow and yield fruits otherwise it would be eliminated.
            The difference lies in the governance and the people that run the government. This is usually felt in rich countries where the government is a Social Welfare Government. Politicians can easily corrupt the tax collection system and the distribution of income.

   Yes, Man is mortal, nothing is permanent. But for a particular person something remains permanent. Gorge Washington, the creator of Independent US is still alive in the US although he died few centuries ago. So it is not untrue to believe that there are many things permanent in life for some one.
