Global Warming is threatening our earth

Industrial pollution causing green house gas emission

Green house gases

There are green house gases in the atmosphere. Water vapor, methane, carbon dioxide are the main green house gases. Lower layers of atmosphere are kept warm by green house gases. The atmosphere would have been less warm if these gases were not there.Green house gases trap infrared radiations, this energy is given out by earth to outer space.

Fossil fuels

Coal, natural gas, petroleum are fossil fuels. Mankind is regularly burning them for his own use.Carbon dioxide gets released by them. This is warming earth's atmosphere. Naturally occurring green house gases are being increased by them.Carbon dioxide concentration was 40% to 45% more in 2008 in the atmosphere as compared to 1800s,a period when industrial revolution started.

"Holy Grail" depends on sensitivity of climate. It tells us how much warming was because of mankind and how much more we can expect by it in the future.

Green house gases are increasing globe's temperature

The earth's climate is sensitive. There is consensus on this.Till fossil fuel is used as primary source of energy 0.25 to 0.5 degrees Celsius of warming is expected every ten years. James Hansen of NASA says that Earth's climate is sensitive and man has put lot of extra carbon dioxide in atmosphere. He has campaigned against construction of coal power plants in Unites States along with All Gore.

Green house gases have increased temperature of globe's surface, there is a strong consensus on this view in scientific literature. All international and national bodies agree to this except those who have connection with industries.

Since 20th century, 0.8degrees Celsius temperature of sea and air surface has increased. More than 90% scientists are sure that green house gases due to human activities are increasing globe's temperature according to Inter governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

According to IPCC,combustion of fossil fuels, deforestation, cement production are some causes of Carbon dioxide emission by man which is causing global warming.

Global warming is affecting Global Water cycle

Ice,snow are melting as human has changed the global water cycle and has resulted in global warming. Sea level is rising because glaciers are melting. The climate is showing drastic change, sometimes it is too cold and sometimes very hot.In Arctic warming is strongest.

Oceans are acidifying and species are becoming extinct. Because of all this there is arising food security problem for humans.

Green house gases: statistics

Between 2000 and 2010 green house gases emission increased by 2.2% per year whereas it was 1.3% per year between 1970 to 2000.China is leader in carbon dioxide emissions at present.

Methane causes 4 to 9%,carbon dioxide causes 9 to 26% of green house effect, water vapor causes 36-70% of green house effect and ozone 3-7%.

Industrial revolution has lead to increase in nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide, methane, tropospheric ozone, CFCs.Coal burning has lead to 43% green house gas, green house gas due to oil is 34%,gas is 18%,cement is 4.9% and flaring gas is 0.7%.

Growth in population is causing cutting of trees and construction of houses in place of them.Factories are taking their place. Factories are giving out dangerous gases. It is because of them that the climate is changing. Warming of earth is occurring due to green house gases. Glaciers are melting and sea levels rising. Century after century emissions are rising as a result of human activities.

Research suggests warming is not occurring due to sun.According to observations green housewarming is responsible for warming in lower atmosphere and above atmosphere cooling. Chemical refrigerants are causing strong cooling in stratosphere due to ozone layer depletion.

Plant more trees

Tree felling should be stopped.People should be advised to plant more trees.Excess carbon dioxide will be absorbed by them.We should plant trees on roadsides and in houses.

Due to increase of carbon dioxide concentration in atmosphere oceans are acidifying. Carbon dioxide in oceans has lowered pH values. By 2100 it is predicted that pH on ocean surface will decrease by 0.3 to 0.4.This can threaten sea creatures causing extinction of many.

It is required that we reduce green house gases that are human induced. Then only the survival of human beings and other creatures is possible.

If we don't start taking measures now, we'll wreck the other forever.

      Nice post.Voted up.
