Public speaking - some tips
Public Speaking tips - Speak without fear
q Understand the why behind your “stage fright” in public speaking situations.
q Identify and overcome the barriers holding you back from expressing yourself.
q Shine in any interview or public speaking venue regardless of audience size.
An Approach less taken - To be a good speaker you have to be authentic, which requires finding out what’s stopping you from being authentic, an approach many programs on public speaking give little regard to. They focus primarily on technique – how to write and deliver the speech.
What’s your nervousness profile - Four categories are as follows:
q The Avoider – they experience the highest degree of anxiety because they move heaven and earth to stay out of the spotlight no matter what may result to them.
q The Anticipator- otherwise known as the “worrier” the anticipator cant imagine him ever relaxing, most certainly not in a situation of giving a speech or presentation. Proceed with caution is another motto of anticipators.
q The Adrenalizer – is the one who builds up the tension just before the event. Generally, the skill level of adrenalizers is very high. They know how to prepare consistently and build momentum towards the event.
q The Improviser – are those who don’t’ prepare but during the actual event, they tend to think. Because they spend more time on the concept than the content of their communication, they mostly succeed in trying their audience patience and succeed in putting their ideas across.
Don’t be like the above 4 but still improve on developing the way to it.
