Four Tips to Invoke Peace into our Lives
Peace is a gift
Four Principles on How to Invite Peace into Your Life
Peace is a gift and a natural reward for those who seek it and work out for it. We are all fallible; no matter how hard we try we still make mistakes, we stumble and we fall once in a while. When our lives become chaotic in all areas because of our own doings, whether consciously or not, then it is very difficult to live in peace from within and in our outward reality. Majority will just continue to live a troubled life; the areas of life that are mostly hit are relationships, health, economics or finance, job, and unfulfilled dreams. When these happen then that is the time we sit down and look into ourselves and investigate the motives of our hearts for the decisions and actions we had done; we do this in the spirit of compassion to ourselves instead of blaming ourselves or others or any other situations. The adage "what you sow is what you reap" is worth given importance for introspection.
There are four areas that need attention and nurture to invite peace into our life:
2. Environmental Awareness
3. Service-orientation to Mankind
4. Godliness or the acknowledgement of a Higher Power
Rene Decartes' Cogito ergo sum (I think therefore I am) is the foundation for self-awareness. What we think is what we are. Whatever are the dominating thoughts that we harbour in our moment by moment life is what we become therefore is what we are.
In this sense, it is important that we know what we are keeping inside our minds as we live in the daily basis. We have to be aware of our responses to any given stimulus in our environment because by doing so we will also discover from within ourselves what make us angry, sad, happy, jealous, and the likes. This sounds simple but this is a lifetime effort if we are sincere in our pursuit for peace. We should pay attention to our emotions because these are forces within us that make or break us, as the case may be. It could leave a lifetime scar to our character and block us from progress in our endeavours.
We often make impulsive decisions in a given moment that we feel sorry about afterwards. Emotions cannot be taken for granted; emotional responses are products of how our minds work and react to any situation, people and objects in a given time and place. How our minds work also affects our enthusiasm which is necessary to keep us going. Our mental attitudes are fuels to keep our desires burning for a better and meaningful life.
Our self-awareness naturally flows towards the awareness in our environment. The American saying that goes "There are three kinds of people; those that make things happen, those that watch things happen and those who don't know what's happening." is a perfect picture of environmental awareness.
Our self-awareness will lead us to be aware of what is going on in our society. Once we know our strength and limitations we will have a change of out look towards the society we are in. We will be able to see and understand what people do and why people do what they do. We will be aware of the human ecology, the natural environment, the biological environment and so forth. We will learn to connect ourselves with everything around us. We will have the feeling of belongingness and oneness to the community.
We will have a new understanding of human needs and human activities to improve life condition. Relationships with love ones, neighbours, colleagues, the community, objects, material possessions, money and the like are now in their proper perspective. Those that need to be discarded because they just unnecessarily entangle us will just banish naturally. But this can only effectively happen after meeting the prerequisite of self-awareness.
This is the stage of unfolding to the personal purpose of our existence into this life. After perfecting self-awareness and being aware of the environment having defined our role and relationship with the society collectively, we then continue to unfold and to see what kind of service we can offer not only to our domicile but to the world as a whole.
This is different from the service orientation principle in technology but is an application to ourselves with the same principle of offering our service to the world efficiently.
Godliness; the acknowledgement and connectivity to a Higher Power
There is a Great Intelligence that is the Source and the Force that govern everything that exists, natural or man-made, in the universe. I won't discuss this issue further; take it or leave it. But those who have personal experiences with the Higher Power are the ones who could attest to its role in making their lives meaningful. Lucky are they.
It's like experiencing falling in love. When you describe your feelings of love to someone who had never fallen in love and worse doesn't believe in love, he would think you are "corny" or insane. Personal experience with "God" is just like that; it's wonderful. Try it then you will know what peace is.
