Kids of the 70's

Updated on August 29, 2016

The Kids of the 70's

The Kids of the 70's were a rockin' decade of kids!

Growing Up 70s Meant Moving on From the Beatles to Disco

Rock, Disco and Punk were all big in the 1970s. The early part of the decade saw the loss of a few big names in Rock music. Both Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix died of an overdose in 1970. In addition, the Beatles broke up and went out on their own.

Growing Up 70's Meant Going from Hip Huggers to Polyester

1970's fashion was somewhat diverse. In the early 70's hip hugger pants, midriff tops, wide belts, smock tops, and bell bottom/elephant pants were popular items. White belts and white shoes weren't uncommon, and hot pants, body suits and halter tops were coming along.

In the early part of the 1970's POW/MIA bracelets graced the wrists of many young girls as they bore the names of soldiers missing in the war.

Who are the SOWEGA Kids of the 70's?

Participants simply desire to get back, those feelings of fun, passion and excitement that we ALL experienced back in the 60's, 70's & 80's in Albany. Albany was a very special place then, and I think we now realize that from the discussions and memories we have witnessed this couple years since the Group's inception. We are fun loving 7o's kIDS that truly believe we can make a difference while reuniting with old friends and classmates; and strive to do so. Almost all of us, at some point or another, intermingled together in our neighborhoods, school, clubs/service organizations, sports, churches, outings, dance class, boy scouts, girl scouts or other service related organizations. Most of us know each other, or, at least, know OF each other. We are all part of our cherished memories of those fun times and years. Please join us to experience and reconnect with your old friends, classmates and acquaintances. Our charitable events have raised thousands of dollars for The Easter Seals Society of South Georgia, Albany's Mission: Change, USMC's Toys for Tots program, Albany Autism Group and Alzheimer's Caretaker's Time Out. Stay tuned for information on our upcoming events. Catch us on Facebook at albany70skids@groups.facebook.com

Great lens. I was a teenager in the 70's and enjoyed every second of it. Thanks for bringing back a few memories!

The 70's were cool, I was a teen then and grew up in bellbottom jeans and long hair (constant battles with mom and dad about "style haha)
