A beautiful palace called Laxmi vilas!
Laxmi vilas palace was built in 1890 by the Maharaja sayajirao Gaikwad III, a Maratha ruler at a cost of 14992200 rupees. It's architecture is that of indo-sacracenic revival. It is situated at Vadodara, Gujarat, India.
It is the largest private residence in the world being four times bigger than Buckhingam Palace. The architecture of the palace is a combination of Indian architecture and Gothic revival style. You can say a union of Indian and European architecture styles.
The main hall is the Darbar hall which sometimes hosts musical concerts and cultural events. The floors of the hall are Venetian mosaic. The glass windows are Belgium stained.
The palace is open to public.
The palace has various sculptures and statues made of bronze. The huge complex of the palace houses many sport events like the golf. The Gaekwad golf club is famous in Vadodara. Many bollywood films have also been shot here.
It was disappointing though that we cannot stay here as it is still the residence of the Royal Gaekwad family. We can just admire its beauty from the outside.
