States and Capitals

How well do you know your states and capitals when it comes to the subject of USA civics and geography? Many don't really give it a second thought. I hadn't for many years, then one night I was watching NOVA, and something piqued my interest. I can't even say what, because I was watching an episode about whether or not Pluto was a planet, called 'The Pluto Files.'

How I made the leap to state Capitals from that airing is beyond me, but it got me thinking. And this Hub is the result.

Take the State Capital Quiz

On the right side of the page there is a quiz for anybody who wants to challenge their own knowledge of the State Capitals. Now, it would be easy for anybody to glean answers by checking out one of the maps on this page or to simply read all the State Capitals listed further down, but why cheat?

Memorizing the state capitals is something that has occupied my thoughts on occasion over the years, though I must admit that some of them slip my mind from time to time.

Fortunately, we now have the internet to help make learning things like this a snap for us and our children. If I had the internet growing up, things in my life would be significantly different I believe, just from a professional and educational stand-point.

So, take the quiz and see where you stand and just how knowledgeable you really are...

I guess it may seem a bit like child's play at first glance, but possessing a grasp of the little things in life makes for some interesting conversation starters. I can't tell you how many times tiny little things like this come up when I'm behind the bar, slinging drinks, trying to get people tipsy for a living.

It's times like those when I shrug my shoulders and think to myself how nice it would have been to get this stuff 'down pat' the first time around, when I was in school, back when it mattered and I could transfer the information into my long-term memory.

Just a thought. Hope you enjoyed the info...
