Practicing as a professional interior designer for 30+ years, I do design & build projects & offer tips on how to do simple design tasks.

If you want to go a step further in your career, either because you desire to own your on interior design outfit, or you wish to give yourself a better chance to clinch a high flying job, you should consider going for a bachelor degree in interior design (BA Interior Design).

Upgrading yourself in this profession guarantees an enjoyable career and a better future where you will move and mingle with the high flyers in the interior design world.

You can achieve this through an online study by attending distant learning colleges that offer an interior design course.

Attending online classes is the best way to achieve your dreams if finding the time to attend conventional “on campus” colleges to study will pose a challenge for you.

What You Need to Qualify for Enrolment

To qualify for enrollment, there is a minimum grade of merit that must be attained to be eligible for the program.

For example, in the United Kingdom, a student must achieve 360 credits, and as the HND is rated as 240 credits, it will form part of the 3 year BA interior design course.

Choosing the right online school or college to study will determine how good and professional you'll become as career interior designer.

Major Topics Covered in Design Classes

CAD - Computer Aided Designs

The ability to use the CAD software has now become a standard in producing interior design drawings, therefore the use of CAD software in the bachelor degree program has become of considerable importance to interior designers and students taking online classes.

You may choose from one of the learning options offered by your chosen college and will be provided with a fully working version of the software.

There are usually a couple of options available, and you are allowed to decide on which software package will suit your needs and those of your clients, most.

  • AutoCAD

Standard software, AutoCAD is used by many architectural and major interior design firms and is also utilised by students attending interior design classes. Classes on this topic enable the online student to fully integrate CAD into the design process whilst producing 2D and 3D drawings and presentations.

When this class is successfully completed, you will be able to produce CAD drawings to highly professional standards.

  • ArchiCAD

The aim of this class is to gain sufficient skills and ability using ArchiCAD software. On completion of this course, students of will be able to import, modify and produce CAD drawings and 3D digital visual tours to high interior design professional standards.

Helps you develop research skills in both the interior design subject as well as subjects that may be related to art and the history of art.

As a student of BA interior design, you will be made to do detailed exploration and research on any subject within the field that is of particular interest to you. Your thinking, analytical and writing skills will be fully developed after completion of this course.

This interior design class topic will enable you to demonstrate your ability to conduct an independent and detailed research, and you will develop the ability to defend your findings.

Who Can Attend the BA Interior Design Degree Program?

The BA interior design online course can be taken either by students who have successfully completed the:

  1. Diploma in Interior Design and Decoration
  2. HND in Interior Design
  3. Students who already have a degree in one field, but wish to change their career choice to interior design.

The course builds up on the progress made by graduates of HND in Interior design study.

As an online student, you can study in your own time, at your own pace; and your study course will include everything you will need to learn and know, just as if you were on a college campus.

Learning of how to meticulously plan and document all aspects of interior design and its progressive stages, and how to work and manage time efficiently and more effectively as a professional interior designer.

The purpose of this topic is to provide a framework within which you may structure an individual approach to each and every project you will handle during your studies, and in whilst working in the outside world.

Final Major Interior Design Project

By the time you get to this stage of your study, you will find that it's now the time to build on what you've learnt during your course.

You can comfortably use all the design skills you've gained along the way throughout your course study. You should now be able to manage a project from start to finish. At this final stage, you may decide to pursue any specialist area or niche of interest to you in interior design.

You will be required to set your own schedule for completing various key stages of the final major project of the interior design B.A., program and will be assessed on your design abilities and discipline to manage your project professionally by keeping to deadlines.

This final project of the program prepares you for your final entry into the high-flying lifestyle in the interior design industry.

Online Course Duration

You will be permitted up to 3 years to complete the online interior design program, although this can be completed in as little as 12 months if you diligently and consistently allocate 25 hours a week to study.

But if you can allocate approximately 10 hours a week for study, you can complete the online interior design course in the 3-year time frame effortlessly.

Finding the Best Online College

The best places to look out for reputable schools and colleges that offer online courses in-depth is by checking with the highly regarded institutions of good standing.

Most of them offer a B.A. Degree in Interior Design.

So if finding good interior design schools within your region or locality poses a problem, many of these colleges and universities do offer online studies that are as detailed and comprehensive as any on campus study of interior design and interior architecture.

Interior design is a fun and exciting profession, so be well aware that the study, in the general sense, doesn't apply to these assignments.

Most works are very practical and even though you'll need great commitment, there is the excitement factor which you can't afford to miss.

And to top it all, you will discover that you’ll take great pride in your achievement and a sense of accomplishment pursuing this BA course, and conveniently from the comfort of your home.

Informative hub! Too many people I have met assume getting into the business of interior design is rather simple. However, as you pointed out, to get hired by an established firm typically requires a great deal of schooling and some hands-on experience. Thus, a notable college worth looking at it is Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. This institution has an excellent reputation throughout the nation for their architectural program, and I have heard equally good things about their interior design program.

I would really want to get into interior design and earn a BA degree, but nearby me there is only one Academy (South of Spain) and I can not afford it financially if I give up my job at the moment, but they do not offer online or distance learning which I could organize around my work. I am searching for online courses but I am stuggling to find any kind of ranking between these schools, so how can I know which one should I choose to get a degree which is valued in the real life? Do you have any suggestion which schools to choose or where can I find such a ranking? (I have found rankings of universities but I would like rankings on their Interior designer courses - which might not be exactly the same ranking)

As an interior designer by profession i have interviewed more than 100 people for my company in the past 13 years. Some of them who have completed interior design courses had got the basic ideas of interior design but the level of creativity and with regard to design implementation they had to be trained. I prefer interior designers who have got professional experience.

Yes 007, many do. I remember when i was at The Art Institute Of Atlanta, i was placed on a sort of internship, working as a designer, whilst at school.

And after graduation, i worked for a number of months as a designer, this time with one of my part time college tutor's establishment.

Thank you for visiting and leaving nice comments on my hubs.
